Our founder, Richard M. Johnson (1907-1989), started serving the public and military from this very same location in 1926...82 years ago… as a local manager of a Norfolk based uniform company. In 1952, he bought the business and incorporated as Johnson's Inc. Since that time the business has continued trading as Johnson's "On the Avenue", now a local landmark at the corner of Maryland Avenue and State Circle in downtown Annapolis.
Under the current ownership of Jean Johnson Held, a daughter of Mr. Johnson, the store has maintained its well established reputation as a high quality specialty men’s and ladies-wear store. In addition, it continues to enjoy a strong position as a supplier of uniforms for naval officers, and the yachting community.
Currently, the third generation, Mr. Johnson’s granddaughters, Melissa Held Marsden and Jennifer Held Bieberich, are taking the business in a new direction with the operation of the Johnson’s Web Store. We would love to have a chance to assist you in meeting either your military or civilian needs.
